IMPERIAL POLK GUN CLUB

THE CHET KNACKIEWICZ MEMORIAL SHOOT

MARCH 24-25, 2012

Well, in what we might hope was a harbinger of weather to come for our shooting weekends as we begin to get into the rest of the spring and summer for the year, both days of the shoot experienced beautiful conditions for out-of-doors activities.

As usual our hardworking volunteers put on another great event and we were able to enjoy our shooting without major difficulties or problem of any note. The registration was uneventful, the scoring accurate and timely, the lunch tasty and plentiful, and the camaraderie superb and entertaining. So once again, Three Cheers for all of those that give so freely of their time and efforts.

The IPGC’s next big skeet shoot will be the ‘Fred Hasley Memorial’ scheduled for May 19 & 20, 2012 so make your plans accordingly and we look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones then!

IMPERIAL POLK GUN CLUB

THE ‘DIXIE’ 2012

FEBRUARY 3, 4, & 5 2012

Despite having had some very cold weather a short time before our scheduled dates for this year’s ‘DIXIE’ the weekend turned out to be a good weekend for our shooters with the exception of Friday which, while not being especially cold, was quite windy. And, as most shooters know, a stiff breeze does not usually make for especially good scores.

All told we had 102 registered shooters and 39 camping spots taken up by guests and their RVs some of which were quite impressive and enough golf carts to complement the U.S. Open and some of those were even very impressive. In other words, toys a-plenty for everyone!

During my conversations with Eli Joiner, club president and man-on-the-spot with all the fixes when needed, there were only a few very minor glitches which were quickly resolved. Registration went well, scoring and posting of results was timely and accurate, our referees were firm but fair, and I am not aware that there were any protests or gripes. The food was excellent, plentiful, and the open bar was welcomed by all. So, once again it is time for my usual admonition and request – remember that these activities that we enjoy so much are produced through volunteer efforts so take the time and say ‘Thanks’ to the kind people that make things happen!!

The IPGC’s next big skeet shoot will be the ‘Chet Knakiewicz Memorial’ scheduled for March 24-25, 2012 so make your plans accordingly and we look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones then!

IMPERIAL  POLK  GUN  CLUB

 DIXIE 'WARM-UP' 2012

Well readers, once again, the Imperial Polk Gun Club, its cadre of active club members, club officers, and club volunteers have put on a really great shoot which was well attended (some 54 registered shooters by my count), enjoyed by all, and heightened the anticipation of next month’s follow-on ‘DIXIE OPEN’. So shooters get your guns cleaned, your shells reloaded, and your eye glasses cleaned and come on out and have a great time with us at the Dixie.

As those of you that came out to the club during last week know, shooters, in their motor homes, and other RVs, started arriving early and with the arrival of the shoot registration officials many of us got squared away with the our registration and fee payment on Friday.

Saturday and Sunday, while they began a little chilly, soon turned out to be beautiful with really ideal shooting conditions developing as the day progressed. I heard many shooters commenting favorably on the new field’s background as a result of our ‘mining operation’. It is also always amazing to watch the number of species of birds that cavort and carry on right in the midst of all of the shooting with shot and broken pieces of clay targets showering down on them.

The shooting went very smoothly with only some very minor attention needed for the mechanical aspects of the event all of which were quickly and expeditiously resolved by Eli Joiner and his skilled minions. The lunches and the dinner were delightful and filling, again, as they always are. The refereeing, scoring, and posting of results, as usual, was up to the high standards that we have come to expect and reflect well on the hard work put into their accomplishment by the people involved.

In conclusion we can take the all round success of the ‘Warmup’ as a predictive harbinger of another equally successful ‘Dixie’!!
